Hen Sitting
We
often get asked about caring for hens whilst people go away for a weekend
or longer holiday. Usually it is easy just to ask a neighbour to let your
hens out, feed them, check water and lock them away of an evening, perhaps
in exchange for keeping the eggs laid during that time. But not everyone
has access to a neighbour like that, and surprisingly some neighbours
are nervous of birds. Therefore we have set up a database of people willing
to help by hen-sitting in exchange for someone hen-sitting for them in
return. A type of hen-sitting buddy system! We also have details of some
people who will hen-sit for a small fee.
For others, who just need someone to hen-sit without having to hen-sit in return, or where hen sitting is required at short-notice, we are pleased to offer hen boarding (see more details below).
If you are interested in joining our database of people willing to hen-sit please email us with your name and contact number and we will only pass this on to others in a similar situation. The benefit is more peace of mind knowing that your hens are being looked after by someone who has hens themselves!

If it is not convienient to give someone access to your home whilst away, or you need to arrange hen-sitting urgently or at short-notice, then why not board your chickens with us to have a holiday of their own? They will be well cared for and be contained within a house and run that will be cleaned and disinfected between 'guests'. Hens and cockerels are welcome!
Our prices, which are fully inclusive of feed etc are as follows:-
- 1 to 6 hens - £5 per day (not per hen)
- 7 - 12 hens - £10 per day (not per hen)
The minimum boarding charge is £30 to cover cleaning of the housing and bedding etc. Arrival and departure days will be charged at full daily rate, regardless of drop-off/collection times.
We can arrange collection/return of hens for an additional fee (please contact us for price).
Terms & Conditions
Cash payment is to be made at the time of booking. If for some reason you do not collect your hens on the agreed date then an additional daily fee of £10 will apply.
Practically speaking we will give your hens good care, fresh water and quality food throughout their stay BUT WE CANNOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY for any death, damage, loss or injury whilst your hens are boarding with us.
Your hens will be fed good quality layers pellets during their stay (which is included in the daily boarding cost) but should you want your hens to be fed on alternative feed then you will need to supply this.
We would ask you to check your chickens over and treat for mites etc before bringing them.
Any hens uncollected, after 7 days of the agreed collection date and where no contact has been made, will become our property.
